5 Minutes with MR PORTER’S Dan May

In February 2011 MR PORTER launched with an aim to crack the notoriously tough men’s luxury retail market. Fast forward 4 years – today the destination ship to 99 countries worldwide and each month inherit a whopping 4000 new customers. Part of this increasing success lies in the hands of fashion director; Dan May. Overseeing the fashion shoots, seasonal campaigns and travel stories for all of the MR PORTER content, Mr May influences sartorially minded men all over the world with his finger constantly on the pulse.

What’s something that not many people know about working at Mr Porter?
That even though it has grown enormously since we launched there is still a “family feel” to the office that I find incredibly refreshing. We have a great team who work incredibly hard to try and produce interesting editorial for our customers on a weekly basis, no easy feat!

Can you name for us your top 2 places to travel for people who want something off the beaten path?
Marrakech – living in the UK I find this the closest – furthest away place you can be if that makes sense?! It’s a 3-hour flight and by lunch time you can be having lunch on the roof listening to the call to prayer and just feeling a million miles away from your daily life in London. I stay at El Fenn which is a magical boutique hotel right in the middle of the medina but once inside it’s like a little sanctuary and you can do as much or as little as you choose.
Second would have to be California – Sonoma and Big Sur and all around there. Spectacular scenery and a great place to escape, would recommend getting a car, (preferably convertible) exploring and getting off the beaten track.

Where would you like to see Mr Porter a year from now?
Doing more of the same but reaching more of our global audience with our editorial content.

What’s on the top of your fashion bucket list at the moment?
Anything from Berluti!
