COS Opens First Store in Sydney
The highly anticipated Swedish brand and sibling of H&M has extended it’s timeless, understated fashion pieces to Sydney-siders this month. Housed in one of the sunny city’s most iconic buildings, the 550 square metre store’s stylish minimal features and use of natural materials compliments the brands aesthetic nicely.
Known for it’s quality, COS is the go-to for sophisticated staples at accessible prices. “Elements of timelessness, quality and versatility are all key aspects men appreciate when investing in clothing. In addition, for men a good fit is always imperative particularly when investing in a tailored jacket or trousers.” Says Head of Menswear Design, Martin Anderson.
Oliver Grand: How would you explain your approach to design?
Martin Anderson: At COS we are continually inspired by art and design and look to different artists, exhibitions and designers each season. This season, the design team looked to the photography of Vincent Fournier, whose influence can be seen in the ‘laboratory’ aesthetic in the collection, as well as the fragmented typography work of David Ortiz, whose work inspired a number of graphic prints.
Oliver Grand: What does the COS male customer have in common?
Martin Anderson: We think of our customers as style conscious, confident, with a big-city mind-set and up-to-date with what is happening in the world across everything from art, music to culture. We believe they want value for money, a good service upon request and an inspiring and pleasant shopping experience. It is our hope that this type of customer can be found internationally.
Oliver Grand: What is your impression of Australian men’s style.
Martin Anderson: I haven’t actually been to Sydney but I have heard from Karin (Head of Womenswear Design) who is there at the moment that there is an effortlessness towards dressing. I have also heard that the style is reflective of the outdoor and active lifestyle people lead. I very much hope to go one day and see for myself!
