Evan Mock

Evan Mock, grew up on the north shore of Hawaii in Oahu and started skating at the age of 12. Over the last few years, the 20-year-old has made a name for himself in global skate and surf culture, not to mention recently signing with one of the world’s biggest modelling agencies: IMG.

Despite his newfound success, Mock who is gaining worldwide attention, remains every bit humble and proud of his heritage, “my favorite thing about Hawaii is that everyone is family no matter what and kids are taught respect as soon as life begins.”

Now living in Costa Mesa (a coastal city in Orange County, California), Hawaii, according to Mock, was the best place to grow up in the world but also the best place to leave, “I found myself doing things too repetitively in Hawaii. A normal day consisted of waking up to my 6:00am alarm clock to head down to Haleiwa Harbor and boat a few miles out to swim with all types of creatures like sharks, whales, dolphins, etc with my crew islandviewhawaii.com. After that, I’d get an acai bowl and check the waves, go surf, and finish the day off at my local skatepark across the street from the famous Pipeline on the north shore of Oahu”.

“What I love most about LA is that there’s always something to do: go skating through the city, go to gigs during the week, see sports games, etc. The feeling you get in LA is so inspiring, mostly because of the talented humans in this city and I love the fact that you can go out and make something out of yourself here.”

Swimming with sharks is like no other feeling in the world. Being completely free, immersed in the deep blue at the will of a creature who is letting you into their kingdom is the most incredible feeling that not many people in this world will ever get to experience.

With a riding style often described as ‘fearless’, he learned to surf before he could properly swim and spends his spare time shark diving, “Swimming with sharks is like no other feeling in the world. Being completely free, immersed in the deep blue at the will of a creature who is letting you into their kingdom is the most incredible feeling that not many people in this world will ever get to experience.”

In true Californian style, we met Evan on the iconic pier at Santa Monica beach on a sunny day. Against the blue and eclectic backdrop, the young skating prodigy put his modelling skills to the test.
