When you’re a celebrated young man, representing brands and businesses surely the click and flash of the camera can take their toll. We asked a couple of our favourite Sydney based ‘male models’ about what gets them going away from the studio, what excites their lives and we shouldn’t stereotype boys that posse in front of cameras.

When you’re not doing what you do, what do you do?
Trick question, If I wasn’t doing what I do, then I wouldn’t be me!

What’s your vice?
Dark chocolate, wine or any combination of the two.

More or less?
Less, why complicate life when simple things can make you very happy.

Where do you relax?
Anywhere I can listen to some good music or watch the sun set.

6 or 7-minute abs’?
Not many know this, but it’s the seventh minute that really targets the abs. Push through it people!

Model Idiot? Tell us about yourself.
Apart from being really, really ridiculously good looking, I’m currently finishing off my degree in biochemistry and planning upcoming trips overseas. In my downtime I love getting out into the bush and chilling with my mates.

Why you? What makes you the man you are?
I strive to make each day better than the one before, though not as good as the one after.

What do you think will set you apart in this world of ‘male modeling’?
I’m not your typical male model. I believe all the other things I do, whether exploring, studying or volunteering, bring back something real into the modelling work that I do.

Crystal ball. In 5 years I’ll be…
Studying medicine and still a goofball.

Modeling is good for…
Meeting amazing people from all the corners of the world.

Modeling is bad for…
Not having a huge ego. My girlfriend has to bring me down to earth way too often.

London, Paris or Milan (or Sydney)?
Sydney! All the best people are here! It took visiting all the other amazing places on that list for me to realise it though.

I never thought I would…
Answer all my interview questions completely naked.

How do you greet someone?
If I haven’t seen someone for a while then I’ll pick them up and spin them around. This is non-negotiable!

And how do you say goodbye?
I’m the kind of person that often ghosts away from the party without saying goodbye to everyone, who has time for that! Plus, you get to seem mysterious.

First love? Best love?
My first love was like a firework, brilliant and fleeting. Hopefully my second one will be more like a star, bright and long lasting.

What would you do with an extra hour each day?
Get deeper into whatever good book I’m reading, there just isn’t enough time to read them all!

JAI STEVENS @jaiostevens

When your not doing what you do, what do you do?
Modelling aside, motorbikes are built, waves are surfed and no stretch of the east coast of Australia is undiscovered. Check out my website modernalchemy.com.au – a reflection on all things I believe in.

What’s your vice?
A bottle of Chivas and a pretty girl full of conversation.

More or less? (Work it out).
Less is more (you work it out).

Where do you relax?
A hammock on my balcony, blessed with all day sun. A book worth reading usually helps settle the nerves.

6 or 7-minute abs’?
10 minute ?

Model Idiot? Tell us about yourself.
My name is Jai O’Donoghue – Stevens, I’m 21 years of age and I like long walks on the beach and romantic sunsets. Shakespeare’s Macbeth. A masterpiece I’m studying in acting at the moment, it’s good it’s bad and it’s ugly and it certainly gets me going.

What makes you the man you are?
I was raised by two well traveled, educated and open minded beings who have always had me in their best interest. I was also lucky enough to get their good looks. I’ve learnt in my 21 years to be humble, ask questions and push myself. We are capable of a lot more then we realise.  I’m young, and the word ‘man’ has really only recently become something I have associated myself with. But it’s got a good feel to it, and is something I look forward to growing more into. I’m still a while away from my first grey hair but the journey between now and then is an exciting thought to me.

And what do you think will set you apart in this world of ‘male modeling’?
Good intentions, the ability to filter out the ‘bullshit’ and the realisation that
‘male modelling’ is just the beginning and a perfect opportunity to take advantage of this industry. Good things to come, stay tuned folks.

In 5 years I’ll be…
26. Well traveled, well educated and well beyond my time.

Modelling is good for…
Opening doors that would usually be locked.

Modelling is bad for…
The soul.

London, Paris or Milan (or Sydney)?
6 Months Paris. The food, the City, the culture, the history, the lifestyle, the woman, the class. 6 Months Sydney. The easy living, sunny mornings, salty breeze, fresh produce and most importantly the sense of home that could never be replaced.

I never thought I would…
Make an income based on my appearance.

How do you greet someone? And how do you say goodbye?
Eye contact is important when both greeting and saying goodbye.

First love? Best love?
I suppose everybody falls in love in high school, well at least we all thought it was love. Still looking for the ‘best’, she’s out there somewhere.

What would you do with an extra hour extra day?
A lot can be accomplished in an hour. I guess I would spend it wisely. Time is of the essence.

When your not doing what you do, what do you do?
I do illustrations and hang out with my dog, lately I’ve been working on writing and illustrating a children’s book.

What’s your vice?
Berry bliss.

More or less?
Less definitely, like you know how you look like a kook when you have too many accessories on?!

Where do you relax?
I go for runs in the centennial parklands and mentally re-enact every confrontational situation I‘ve ever been in.

6 or 7-minute abs’?
Both, is it working?

Tell us about yourself. (What’s current, good and gets you going)?
I live in an apartment on the edge of Paddington, Sydney. It shares a courtyard with a bar outside and someone keeps dumping shopping carts there, like a new one every day. They are starting to pile up and the council won’t take them.

Why you? What makes you the man you are?
I live surrounded by women, one of them is a dog and the other is my wife.

And what do you think will set you apart in this world of ‘male modeling’?
Proficiency in Microsoft excel and PowerPoint.

Crystal ball. In 5 years I’ll be…
I can only plan one year ahead but this year I just want to travel and finish my book, maybe even read a book. In five years I’ll probably have like a dozen kids or something.

Modeling is good for…
Having cool pictures of yourself to post on Instagram.

Modeling is bad for…
Having too many pictures of yourself on Instagram.

London, Paris or Milan (or Sydney)?
I’ve never been to any except Sydney. I love it here though.

I never thought I would…
Finish this questionnaire.

How do you greet someone? And how do you say goodbye?
Really awkwardly, it usually starts off as a handshake and then kind of morphs into this confused slow motion hug. Saying goodbyes I kind of just sneak away when no one is paying attention, leaving no traces.

First love? Best love?
Chloe, duh.

What would you do with an extra hour extra day?
I only get 23, how many do you get?

LEWIS GRANT @lewiz1

lewsi grant | off duty

When your not doing what you do, what do you do?
Train, beach, eat, hang with my girl, train again.

What’s your vice?
Gymnastics rings.

More or less?
Always more

Where do you relax?
The beach. My girls arms.

6 or 7-minute abs’?
40 minute abs everyday.

Model Idiot? Tell us about yourself. (What’s current, good and gets you going)?
Always healthy food. Never stop wanting to learn about the right way to live and what to put in my body! Also love spending time with good honest people. Can’t put value on good friends that help you to learn and grow! I love to travel as well. Some things you just can’t learn in a text book and need to see/feel it for yourself!

Why you? What makes you the man you are?
My honesty, both good and bad at times I think sums up the person I am. I don’t think it sets me apart but it very hard to find honest people in an industry built on superficial qualities.

In 5 years I’ll be…
At the top of the pyramid baby!!

Modeling is good for…
Travel, meeting great people and having time for yourself.

Modeling is bad for…
Dealing with superficial sad cases.

London, Paris or Milan (or Sydney)?
New York.

I never thought I would…
You don’t want me to answer that.

How do you greet someone? And how do you say goodbye?
Start with shaking hands or kissing a cheek and formally introducing myself and asking the same of the person I’m meeting. “Good bye, lovely to meet you!” Same again.

First love? Best love?
She knows who she is.

What would you do with an extra hour extra day?
Make more love.
