Bassike Launches Store in LA’s Venice Beach
Words Kate Ross
The archetype of perfect organic cotton tees and lo-slung trousers, Bassike, is opening its first international store. And where better than its beach-vibe counterpart, Venice, LA? The label is renowned for exuding a kicked back but subtly luxuriant vibe by soaking up the spirit of its homeland, Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Housing those infamous drop-crotch pants, super soft sweats and effortlessly chill outerwear, the store will sit on Lincoln Boulevard, a strip nestled with farm-to-table restaurants, and independent fashion and lifestyle retailers.
Bassike’s directors, Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan, who founded the brand in 2006, have collaborated with local designers, commissioning artwork, custom furniture and detailing to secure an interior that perfectly captures the beachy surf and skate feel of the neighbourhood, and the result is minimalist and sun-strewn. White-walled and featuring skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows, it incorporates strong pieces including a white oak daybed and vintage Moroccan rug.
