City to Shore
The opening of an Australian flagship store has long been on the agenda for Saturdays NYC founders: Morgan Collett, Colin Turnstall and Josh Rosen. Following on from the success of their seven boutiques (two in NYC and four in Japan), Bondi Beach was an obvious choice for location: “The fact that the city was situated directly on the coast was incredibly special to us. We always said if we could find the right space we would opening in Bondi before anywhere else.“ Says co founder Morgan Collett.
The light, open space reflects the brand’s modern aesthetic with local sourced timbers and materials used. Like in all stores, a combined retail /cafe experience remains a signature feature with specialty coffee served through a window providing an outdoor hangout for locals.
Known for it’s relaxed modern looks and wearable pieces, the New York brand couldn’t have arrived at a better time, landing it’s first Australian flagship at Bondi in the midst of Sydney Summer. Morgan says the largest consideration when selecting product for Australia was the reverse seasonality: “We wanted to make sure that our collection had enough focus on spring and summer styles to have a large enough offering for the Australian market, while at the same time representing the brand in a complete way. We also wanted to showcase our collaborations in the store, like the Porter collection that launches in store Monday Dec 7th.“
For their new collection you will continue to see the brand’s considered approach on menswear: “The focus will be on design and quality with clean aesthetic when it comes to branding. Some key pieces for summer will be the board shorts, Esquina short sleeve Oxfords, Vass canvas slip ons and the Luke denim,“ states Collett, “An eclectic surfboard range will also be on offer from Gato Heroi, Jeff McCallum and Hayden Shapes.”
